First, thanks to everyone who
- FERPA should be listed in the considerations for online designs
- Consider how you need/want to control the data -- for example, should you let a Wiki remain editable after it has been "submitted"? Should it be editable by those outside of the course?
- Who owns the content students submit?
- A good conversation on this one, though we may need to explore this topic more thoroughly.
- Sounds like work that is submitted in exchange for a grade belongs to the University but could be used by the students in the future.
- Sounds like students can alternatively post their content elsewhere (e.g. outside of the LMS) and point their instructors to it (but did we say that students can still retain ownership over this content while submitting it for a grade)?
- Certainly must choose a design strategy that first meets the learning objectives for the course rather than by "coolness" of technology. Must also weigh pros and cons (e.g. difficulty of learning a new tool).
- When using the Jigsaw strategy, one difficulty is loosing overall context and cohesiveness of the content. Thus, it may be important to provide an opening presentation by the instructor to help set the context and for the instructor to monitor the development of group's work to ensure the desired main points are covered and have some level of consistency.
- Presentation was delivered in Prezi, which is nice to for getting out of the PowerPoint box and providing flexibility in navigation.
- Digital business card provided by ConTXTs.
