Sloan-C Emerging Technologies Symposium presentation by Jeff Gold, Brett Christie, Kathy Fernandes, and Jim Julius entitled Transforming Teaching and Learning Challenges in the California State University system. About 34 in attendance.  A good presentation. Main points include:
  • Joined presentation mid-stream.
  • Wrapped up discussiong Chico rubric.
  • e-Portfolios and their role in transformation.
    • For student performance and program evaluation
    • AACU's LEAP initiative - state-wide goals to which all Utah universities' institutional goals much map
    • Need to be flexible
      • CSU uses 5-6 e-portfolio systems, no comprehensive system
      • Need to use the right tool for the multiple jobs: ePs for each "identity":
        • classmates
        • instructors
        • potential employers
    • AACU collecting rubrics to built "meta rubrics"
    • 50% of employers find e-portfolios show what they need to know about students, compared to 33% for multiple choice quizzes
  • Accessibility
    • Web Accessibility (administrative pages)
    • Instructional Materials

    • Procurement
    • Talking a lot about the challenges they faced, but not much depth about the solutions
